FC Barcelona and Chelsea have reached an agreement in principle for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. According to Fabrizio Romano, the transfer will be closed for 14 million euros plus the transfer of Marcos Alonso to Barçelona.

Aubameyang's injury which he suffered during the armed robbery at his home will keep him away from the pitch for the next four weeks. Thomas Tuchel's insistence was key in getting the deal through at the last minute.

The former Arsenal player scored 13 goals for Barcelona in all competitions in the 23 games he played last season, helping the team to finish second in La Liga.

His salary, which was set to increase exponentially this season, and the economic situation of Barca, have been the main factors for his transfer to Chelsea. The striker arrived in Barcelona on the last day of the January transfer market for free.

With Aubameyang's departure, Barca will now have the salary space to register Marcos Alonso and some of the new signings expected in the next few hours.

Aubameyang has been given permission to fly to the UK for his medical and to finalise the deal. He can resume non-contact training next week.

Thomas Tuchel is keen to work again with a player who scored 79 goals for him in two seasons at Borussia Dortmund.

Tuchel and Todd Boehly have already spent £268m this summer on players, including Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella, Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly.

England manager Gareth Southgate against France in the World Cup 2022 quarter-final Southgate has allowed a new generation of England fans to dream. His accomplishments should not be downplayed or ignored. But England can't quite get over the hill when it counts. As was evident last night, and Italy in the final of the Euros, England struggle to turn that firm grip on the game into chances and goals. Deschamps's men were not better than England's. They just had that vital 1 per cent that carried them through. Winners win football matches. England had a better xG. England (2.59) 1-2 (1.32) France. Sure 2 of the chance were penalties which boosted the xG for England, but then its the tiny margins that can decide a World Cup knockout game. Both sides were taking out their opponents strengths, but then their own strength was not coming into play. England were creating chances, but never ones you thought had to be goals. Kyle Walker was stuck blunting Mbappe, and the same was ...
