An injury-hit Real Madrid side still managed to field a strong starting XI, as manager Carlo Ancelotti had to make do without key players such as Karim Benzema, Thibaut Courtois, and Eder Militao. The starting XI for Real Madrid was as follows: Lunin; Nacho, Alaba, Rudiger, Camavinga; Tchouameni, Kroos, Modric; Valverde, Rodrygo, Vinicius.
Al Ahly also put up a strong fight, fielding the following starting XI: El Shenawy; Maaloul, Metwally, Abdelmonem, Hany; Afsha, Dieng, El Soulia, Abdelkader; El Shahat, Sherif.
The match was fast-paced from the start, with Vinícius Júnior of Real Madrid winning a free kick in the attacking half just 1 minute into the game. Rodrygo also won a free kick in the attacking half in the 14th minute.
The first big chance of the match came in the 25th minute, when Mohamed Sherif of Al Ahly was played in behind the Madrid defence, but his left-footed shot from a difficult angle went well over the bar. Just a few minutes later, Mohamed Abdelmonem of Al Ahly had a header from the center of the box that was too high following a corner.
Rodrygo had a close call in the 29th minute, dinking the ball over the keeper, but his effort hit the post. In the 41st minute, Real Madrid capitalized on a defensive error, with Vinicius Junior calmly dinking the ball over the goalkeeper to give Madrid the lead.
Right at the start of the second half, Real Madrid extended their lead, with Rodrygo's shot being parried into the path of Valverde who calmly slotted the ball home. Al Ahly managed to get a goal back in the 91st minute, with a penalty being committed by Camavinga and tucked away by Ali Maaloul.
Rodrygo added another goal to Real Madrid's tally in the 97th minute, before substitute Sergio Arribas came onto the pitch just seconds ago and with his first touches managed to score, securing a 1-4 victory for Real Madrid.
Despite the result, Al Ahly can be proud of their performance against one of the top teams in the world.
