Barça could not register Jules Koundé in time to face Real Sociedad

 Key Points

  • The registration of Barca's new signing, Jules Koundé couldn't go through in time to face Real Sociedad.
  • Dest, Umtiti, and Braithwaite are also left out.
Barca's squad list for Matchday 2 where they play their first away game of the season against Real Sociedad

It's Matchday 2 and Barcelona face off against Real Sociedad at the Reale Arena. The squad list has been released and it turns out that
Barça could not register Jules Koundé in time to face La Real. Sergino Dest, Samuel Umtiti, and Martin Braithwaite have been left out of the list for a second consecutive week.

Despite his situation linked with a move to Chelsea, Aubameyang has been included in the squad and is expected to play some minutes in the second half, with birthday boy Robert Lewandowski the undisputed starter.

Jules Koundé is annoyed with his situation at Barcelona. The club have prioritized his registration for next week. According to Javi Miguel, Barça's coaching staff are upset for not being able to count on Koundé for tonight's game and the frustration is growing. Andreas Christensen is likely to start and Barça could play a 3-4-3 formation for the first time this season.

Memphis Depay, linked with a move to Juventus, has also travelled to San Sebastian. With the departure of the Dutchman and the Gabonese having slowed down in the recent hours, the club has sent a clear message to buying clubs by including them in the squad list.

According to Luis Miguelsanz, Barca had initially planned not to include Memphis Depay in the squad. In fact, the club had planned to announce his departure this Saturday, but the increasing demands of the Dutchman from Juve have strained the operation and now everything is up in the air.

Depays agents are still negotiating with Juventus and it would not be surprising if the Dutch striker falls off the squad list at the last moment if his transfer to Juve heats up in the next few hours.

As for Aubameyang, things are very different. The striker has reached an agreement on personal terms with Chelsea, but the difference in valuation of the player between the clubs are anything but close and it is unlikely that an agreement can be reached in the next few days.

There is a meeting scheduled on Monday to try to advance Auba's move to London but in the meantime Barça will play him because they see deal as unlikely to go through although nothing is ruled out. The signal being sent from the Catalan giants is that if Chelsea want him, they will have to bump up their offer.

Barca are looking for their first win of the season. Xavi Hernández will not be able to count on captain Sergio Busquets who was booked in the last game with a red card.

Barça's coaching staff and players left for San Sebastian after 11am, a little later than expected. An hour later, they landed in San Sebastián and headed for the NH Collection San Sebastián Aránzazu Hotel where they will stay until it is time to travel to Anoeta to play the match.

Where it went wrong for Three Lions against France in the World Cup and is manager Southgate the right man to lead England to the Euros 2024

England manager Gareth Southgate against France in the World Cup 2022 quarter-final Southgate has allowed a new generation of England fans to dream. His accomplishments should not be downplayed or ignored. But England can't quite get over the hill when it counts. As was evident last night, and Italy in the final of the Euros, England struggle to turn that firm grip on the game into chances and goals. Deschamps's men were not better than England's. They just had that vital 1 per cent that carried them through. Winners win football matches. England had a better xG. England (2.59) 1-2 (1.32) France. Sure 2 of the chance were penalties which boosted the xG for England, but then its the tiny margins that can decide a World Cup knockout game. Both sides were taking out their opponents strengths, but then their own strength was not coming into play. England were creating chances, but never ones you thought had to be goals. Kyle Walker was stuck blunting Mbappe, and the same was ...
