MEMPHIS DEPAY IS LOSING GROUND AT BARCA

 By Our Correspondant

Key Points

  • The continuity of Dembélé and the imminent arrival of Raphinha open the exit doors for Memphis
  • The Dutchman wants to stay at Barcelona but he would be open to transfer options from Champions League teams
Memphis has not made any type of decision and remains on the lookout

Memphis Depay's future at Barcelona is beginning to look bleak. The continuity of Ousmane Dembélé and the more than probable signing of Raphinha can close the doors to the Dutchman's continuity. As per Sport, Barcelona recently had a meeting with Depay's agents and told them that an agreed exit was on the table. The Dutch striker has one year left on his contract and Barcelona would like to sell him before he becomes a free agent. The final decision will be made by Memphis himself, who at the moment is part of Barcelona's preseason tour to the United States.

Xavi considers the Dutchman a wild card in the attack. His minutes under Xavi gained prominence in the final stretch of the season and ended up gaining minutes, however, that doesn't guarantee continuity anymore as Barça is very clear that the attack must be completed by the signing of Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich. There is a significant overload in Barca's attack depth. Barca believe Memphis is an asset who could bring in much needed cash if transferred.

Memphis remains on the lookout although his first wish is to continue as a Blaugrana. If his entourage and the club come to a transfer agreement, the striker would only study proposals from Champions League teams and there are options on the table. Tottenham recently showed interest, as well as Serie A giants Inter Milan and Juventus. Barca are very clear that if Memphis is not going to have minutes, he must leave this summer.

Where it went wrong for Three Lions against France in the World Cup and is manager Southgate the right man to lead England to the Euros 2024

England manager Gareth Southgate against France in the World Cup 2022 quarter-final Southgate has allowed a new generation of England fans to dream. His accomplishments should not be downplayed or ignored. But England can't quite get over the hill when it counts. As was evident last night, and Italy in the final of the Euros, England struggle to turn that firm grip on the game into chances and goals. Deschamps's men were not better than England's. They just had that vital 1 per cent that carried them through. Winners win football matches. England had a better xG. England (2.59) 1-2 (1.32) France. Sure 2 of the chance were penalties which boosted the xG for England, but then its the tiny margins that can decide a World Cup knockout game. Both sides were taking out their opponents strengths, but then their own strength was not coming into play. England were creating chances, but never ones you thought had to be goals. Kyle Walker was stuck blunting Mbappe, and the same was ...
