LUIS ENRIQUE'S PRESS CONFERENCE AHEAD OF THE MATCH AGAINST CZECH REPUBLIC

Luis Enrique: "I wanted to see Ansu Fati train again here and see his level. After seeing it, I am very optimistic. He has recovered from the injury but he is not at the level to play with us yet. He may or may not play tomorrow.'

"To see Fati in this condition is really positive. I've seen him in better shape in terms of his self-confidence. He's a symmetrical player and we treat him like that. I have no doubts that he will return to his level. He is a unique player.'

"We don't have to rush things with Ansu. He is coming out of a very difficult year and we have to determine the times for him to play on a regular basis."

Luis Enrique: "Gavi has a lot to improve on and off the field, that's the truth."

"Comparing Busquets and Gavi? I wouldn't compare Busquets with anyone else because anyone would lose to him, especially if he was very young."

Although, it makes absolutely no sense in comparing Busquets and Gavi because of their positional differences, let's just do it for the heck of it.

Playing for Barcelona, Busquets managed to complete 86.7 percent of the passes that he attempted, while Gavi finished at the 89 percent rate. Although Gavi produced just over half the number of passes attempted by the holding midfielder, the youngster usually plays the ball closest to the final third where the risk of misplacing a pass is higher.

Busquets and Gavi are the two midfielders who contributed the most in defence and are the two Barcelona outfielders who committed the most fouls. They are also the ones who received the most yellow cards.

Only Memphis Depay received more fouls than these two Barcelona academy products.

Given his position on the pitch, Gavi is involved in Barcelona's attacks more than his teammate. He had the higher chances created numbers.

England manager Gareth Southgate against France in the World Cup 2022 quarter-final Southgate has allowed a new generation of England fans to dream. His accomplishments should not be downplayed or ignored. But England can't quite get over the hill when it counts. As was evident last night, and Italy in the final of the Euros, England struggle to turn that firm grip on the game into chances and goals. Deschamps's men were not better than England's. They just had that vital 1 per cent that carried them through. Winners win football matches. England had a better xG. England (2.59) 1-2 (1.32) France. Sure 2 of the chance were penalties which boosted the xG for England, but then its the tiny margins that can decide a World Cup knockout game. Both sides were taking out their opponents strengths, but then their own strength was not coming into play. England were creating chances, but never ones you thought had to be goals. Kyle Walker was stuck blunting Mbappe, and the same was ...
